Pieter Nel and Andrew Maunder co-founded Kuza Mobile in 2011. Using our experience in emerging market social networks gained as CTO and Head of UX at instant messenger Mxit, we built a business that would provide a mobile trading platform to empower emerging market entrepreneurs in Africa to expand their businesses. We were funded by Founder Collective but eventually failed to raised follow-on funding. Pieter went on to spend a year at MIT as a Sloan Fellow and Legatum Fellow continuing his focus on digital strategy specifically in emerging markets. Subsequently he helped livestreaming company YouNow scale into the Middle East and South America.
Pieter formed Kuza Ventures with the aim to pass on the experience gained the hard way through consulting, advising and investing in promising businesses and entrepreneurs targetting Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia and South America.
